We try to be as entrepreneurial as we can, bolstering our income by occassionally selling items we've designed and had made ourselves. Watch this space for things to buy.
We've launched a 2012 calendar featuring local scenes and highlighting a handful of local events. It aims to show off Wellington and its surroundings at their best, from The Wrekin's bluebell woods in Spring to a snow-capped All Saints Church in Winter. All profits will go towards funding H2A's arts and heritage events next year, including the Wellington Midsummer Fayre and Sounds in The Square.
You can see a preview of the twelve images that make-up the calendar on our Flickr page, HERE.
The calendars cost £6 each and can be picked up at Ken Francis Butchers in Market St, Wellington. A one-off sale is also planned in WH Smiths in Wellington on 3rd December. Alternatively, you can order your calendars by sending a cheque to Wellington H2A, c/o 5 Linnet Gate, Telford, TF1 3QB. Please include details of your full name, address and telephone number, along with the number of calendars you would like and a cheque for the full amount. Prices are as follows (including postage and packing):
1 calendar = £7.20
2 calendars = £13.50
3 calendars = £20.70
4 calendars = £27.00
H2A is always looking for fun and interesting ways to promote the town and show that it is somewhere distinctive. Our research about the town brought to light the ale tasters, who were appointed annually in the manor court in the Market Place, until the 1700s. Whilst their role then was to make sure beer wasn't watered down, we thought the post could be revived as a way of promoting local food and drink, both to local retailers and shoppers. The town's market, as de-facto inheritors of the market charter, took up our idea and appointed Wellington's first Ale Taster in over 200 years in September 2009, following a contest in the grounds of the Market Hall.
